Since the 19th century, the motto ‘In God We Trust’ has been present on all American bills and coins, particularly on the one-dollar bill which has become a symbol of pop culture. This inscription does not mean that the government should be oriented towards a particular religion, but rather that the nation recognizes the presence of a divine being and the power of universal spiritual and moral principles. However, printing this motto on symbols of money and material objectives can now appear to be clearly cynical. In the current climate where liberals and conservatives are in opposition in the context of a cultural war, does it not rather reflect a way of promoting a monetary system based on intolerance and lack of respect for the beliefs of others? Is it a way to manipulate the population to adopt specific religious beliefs?
